Cake Planning Success
Frequently Asked Questions
Your wedding cake is an integral part of your wedding reception & will feature in many of your photographs. Designing, creating and choosing your perfect wedding cake is very important, but where do you start when there are so many styles, trends & traditions.
Hopefully, the below answers will provide some guidance and I hope you find it helpful:
-
How long in advance should I book my Wedding Cake?Once you’ve booked your venue and sent out your Save the Date, its best to get in touch to check availability and potentially reserve your date. Most clients will come 6-9 months before the wedding to start the process of creating a bespoke cake. However I will always try to accommodate last minute requests.
-
What is the process of ordering a Wedding Cake?Starting with an initial phone call consultation we will run through your venue, confirm the date & design ideas, this will be followed up by an estimated quote. We can then book you in for your consultation & tasting. Creativity follows with the design process & sketching until we reach your dream wedding cake design. To confirm your order a 25% deposit is required to secure your date and the balance payable 4 weeks prior to your event.
-
How much will my cake cost? The million dollar question ~ All of my cakes are bespoke and therefore the final price will be based on size, complexity and overall design.
-
Can I have a different flavour in each tier?Yes you can have a variety of different cake flavours and filling.
-
Can I taste your cakes?Definitely and this will all be part of the Wedding Cake Consultation.
-
What should I bring to my Consultation? The inspiration for your cake comes from your décor, bring colour swatches, invitations, floral ideas and other design elements. I always find social media is a superb source of inspiration, save images of cakes or elements of a cake that you like as these will be a guide to the style of cake your looking for and help me create your bespoke wedding cake.
-
Will you deliver?Yes, delivery & setup are included and we deliver mainly around the midlands. I can deliver further afield but this would incur an additional delivery charge.
-
Cake Stand & HireSome Wedding venues have their own cake stand & knife but they may not suit the style of your wedding cake. I have a range of cake stands that can be hired, a refundable deposit will be required as a security deposit and returned to you once the cake stand & knife are returned in their original condition within 5 days of your wedding.
-
Do you offer edible wedding favours?Yes lots of little sweet treats from macarons, iced cookies, chocolate gems, cakesicles & cupcakes, all can be individually wrapped to create the perfect favour.
-
What is the size of each wedding cake slice?Wedding cakes are generally served 1”x1” especially if you're having other desserts. If your wedding cake is going to be your main dessert then each portion would be cut 1"x2"
-
Would I have fresh, dried or sugar flowers on my wedding cake?"The choice is totally yours and will be discussed at the design stage. Fresh flowers look stunning on a wedding cake and always soften the overall look. Silk flowers are becoming increasingly popular as they will tie in well with your floral arrangements elsewhere around your venue. Sugar flowers are a work of art and one of my favourite things to create.
-
What if I want a grand, luxury 10 tier wedding cake but my guest numbers are really small?"Your cake can consist of a combination of real cake and dummy tiers but please bear in mind that the majority of work and time involved is in the decoration.
